Primary Purpose:

Provide related duties of a teacher to provide continuity in the day-to-day responsibilities during the absence of the regular teacher.

 

Note: Substitute employees are employed on an as-needed, on-call, day-to-day basis and are not guaranteed work on a regular basis.  There are no benefits associated with substitute employment.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

A minimum of 30 college hours from an accredited university

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Excellent communication skills; the ability to remain patient while also maintaining an orderly classroom

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Take attendance according with school procedures.
  2. Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  3. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  4. Manage the classroom and communicate to students the standards of conduct expected.
  5. Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  6. Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.

Instruction

  1. Carry out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.

Professionalism, Communication, and Additional Responsibilities

  1. Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator in accordance with school policies and practices.
  2. Work cooperatively with other staff.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff, and/or parent/guardian.
